Outlaw Nation - Back In Babylon (Album Review)

I was so stoked and honored to hear that Outlaw Nation wanted us to write an album review for their highly anticipated release of "Back In Babylon". Although the radical reggae band is miles away from those gnarly waves, you can't underestimate these guys. This Louisiana group certainly breaks those stereotypical scenes since they are outside from those regions, but absolutely stand up to those beach bumpin' twangs and wicked wavy rhythms. They take it up a notch to excel up to the stellar record label by Slightly Stoopid, Stoopid Records.

The newest collection to their musical album family is "Back In Babylon," which was released on i-tunes October 18th. Whether you are a Slightly Stoopid fanatic, reggae guru or just enjoy smooth chill tunes, you will certainly enjoy these energetic baselines and bumpin' vibes. With the opening track "Back In Babylon," the band delivers those wild upstrokes, steady claps and then fully open up with an amazing guitar riff at 0:30. From that moment you know you will embark on a musical album trip.

Outlaw Nation certainly has a lot to place on the table since they are on the same record label as Slightly Stoopid. However, maybe since Simeon mentioned in the interview that "Slightly Stoopid are super cool to us and we thank them for being a sounding board for ideas." This is one reason why they feel no pressure- it clearly shows in their musical talent. This particular album has twelve wicked tracks that slide all around the reggae musical chart, but each one delivers those summer moods.

I am a particular fan of rad intros- whether it be an electronic bangher or a smooth reggae track. That particular part, in my opinion, is the first key ingredient to an amazing song. This band delivers just the right amount of spice into each song, especially with the intros. Each song is unique to its own Outlaw Nation twang, and the variety of instrumentals are phenomenal in the intro poppin' tracks such as "Back In Babylon," "Celebration," "Danger," "Rock Da Beat," "Inside Of You," and "Watch Out (Caution)."

Everyone stand back, because the number four track "Danger" is fire. It captivates those wavy baselines that pull you right into those ocean blue curls. However, for those smooth listeners that are a little hesitant to living on the edge, take a listen to "Free Your Mind." It's a more steady, relaxed tune. With fall here, this is a track everyone can sing to and perfect for those autumn drives with that special lady. I am impressed with the amount of variety Outlaw Nation offers the listener. They have a little bit of everything and for a deep bumpin' base line that generates an island roots twang- "Watch Out (Caution)" is it.

It is very hard to listen to cd's these days that keep the listener captivated from beginning to end. This album is a must have from the moment you play track one to the stellar instrumental closer"Positive Dub." Dive into their Facebook for some more instrumental grooves and tour dates. This band certainly has a lot of potential and deserves recognition from their unique blend of vocals mixed with instrumentals. Make sure to check out their album "Back In Babylon" and take a look at the interview and continue listening to their record label- Stoopid Records
